The birth control patch represents a specific type of hormonal contraception that releases its active chemicals through the skin directly into the blood flow. The influence on the ovulation comes from the combination of the estrogens and progesterones used in the birth control patch. A woman will not ovulate while wearing the patch, which means that no egg will be released in the uterus and the sperm will encounter nothing to fertilize. The the patch birth control also changes the consistency of the cervical mucus, thickening it and thus making it difficult for the sperm to get to the egg.
The birth control patch has been designed starting from the monthly menstrual cycle. A birth control patch is put on the skin on the first day of the menstrual cycle, and it will have to be changed on the same day the following week. The period will appear on the fourth week, if you change and wear the patch for three weeks in a row. Do not wear the birth control patch on your breasts, just place it anywhere on the torso, the upper back, the shoulder or the buttocks.
Do not always place the birth control patch on the same skin area as the previous one, and never use it on irritated skin. You may wear it while bathing or swimming without any problem, yet you should not remove to reposition it because it will lose stickiness and it will fall off easily. The stickiness also drops if you wear the birth control patch over makeup, powder and body lotions. Plus, skincare products could prevent the absorption of hormones through the skin.
When you wear the birth control pill for the first time, use some additional birth control for seven days. Moreover, there is no extended action and birth control after you discontinue usage. As for efficiency, it seems that the birth control patch is just as effective as the hormonal pill, if used correctly.
In terms of adverse reactions, you could experience headaches, dizziness, irregular menstrual bleeding and skin reactions during the first month of usage, but such symptoms are usually temporary. If you weigh less than 90 kilograms, you can use the birth control patch in all confidence. For overweight women, the hormonal concentration may may not be enough.
